Celebrating the Growth of Fourth Wave: New Editors Join Us

Written on

Chapter 1: The Journey of Fourth Wave

As Fourth Wave approaches its fifth anniversary on May 19, we reflect on an incredible journey. Since March 27, we have been fortunate to attract over 1,500 unique visitors daily, amassing more than 62,000 views and 110,000 minutes of reading each month. These numbers are astounding!

Our inclusion in the Boost Pilot Program has resulted in a surge of high-quality submissions. I thoroughly enjoy reading and interacting with our writers, editing for clarity and grammar, standardizing formatting, and enhancing headlines to attract more readers. However, this delightful work often means that my own writing, social media promotion, newsletter creation, and engagement with other writers on Medium sometimes take a back seat.

To help manage this growing workload, I've invited two talented contributors to join me as editors for Fourth Wave. These positions are entirely volunteer-based; neither they nor I receive any monetary compensation for our efforts. Their commitment stems from a shared belief in equality for all, and they bring valuable writing skills to our mission.

Section 1.1: Welcoming Our New Editors

Please join me in welcoming our two new editors: Osi I and Suma Narayan.

Subsection 1.1.1: Osi I

Osi I will concentrate on editing prose submissions, with a future goal of enhancing our social media outreach. Her philosophical insights and storytelling ability enable readers to explore the complexities of life through her narratives about justice, empathy, and transformative thinking. Osi, a mother and anti-racism consultant with extensive experience in community policy, offers a vital perspective to our publication.

"I see beauty and purpose in sharing our stories," Osi shares. "Storytelling allows us to express our truths while enlightening and empowering others, paving the way for collective liberation from societal norms. I appreciate how Fourth Wave acts as a platform for this shift within our community of writers, readers, and editors, and I'm excited to embark on this journey together."

Section 1.2: Suma Narayan

Suma Narayan will focus on poetry, editing submissions and creating poetry prompts. A gifted writer and poet, her passion is evident in her published works on Medium.

"I am part of this vibrant community of writers on Medium because I value the seriousness with which we approach our craft, and many of these writers have become dear friends," Suma explains. "I contribute to Fourth Wave because I resonate with its culture of gender equality and appreciate the honesty and camaraderie among the editors."

Suma looks forward to connecting with you in the submissions folder and getting to know you better. As a retired college professor and an Indian expatriate living in Australia, she brings a global viewpoint to Fourth Wave.

Chapter 2: Looking Ahead

I am thrilled and grateful that these remarkable women have chosen to join me on the journey of publishing Fourth Wave. I eagerly anticipate the exciting developments that lie ahead. To both of our new editors and to everyone reading this: welcome!

Have a story or poem that focuses on women or other marginalized groups? We encourage you to submit to the Wave!
