Chapter 1: The Curious Case of My Hand

It’s undeniable that my hand is facing a precarious situation. Is it slowly being severed by the table saw I’m using? Many observers would say yes. However, before I halt the spinning blades and further postpone the DIY kitchen island project I promised my wife would be finished last week, let’s take a moment to acknowledge that the science surrounding this matter is still up for debate.

For starters, hands can be lost for numerous reasons. From frostbite and diabetes to industrial mishaps, there are countless historical instances of traumatic hand loss. How can I be blamed for this specific episode of hand injury just because I refuse to retract my arm from the chaotic whirl of steel currently slicing through my wrist? It seems illogical, don’t you think?

Moreover, prior warnings about impending doom have often proven to be exaggerated. My overly cautious cousin Janet once advised against using gasoline to ignite my grill, claiming it could incinerate my house. Well, she was wrong! It merely burned down my deck, and that was only because I had a few too many drinks. Once, I even stared directly at a solar eclipse, and my vision returned to normal within six months. Blindness? Not even close! My children constantly nag me to quit smoking, warning that I’ll develop cancer. Guess what? I haven’t seen a doctor in six years, and I’m pretty certain I’m cancer-free!

My neighbor Jeff insists that if I don’t act quickly, I might suffer irreparable harm or even lose my hand entirely. This sort of hand-damage panic truly makes the pro-hand advocates seem a bit deranged. My hand has been around for 47 years and has never once been severed by a table saw. Calm down, folks!

People often say, “You only have one hand, so you need to protect it.” This is simply incorrect. I have another hand! These are the same individuals who claim the Earth is warming, even when it’s chilly right where I stand. “Oh no, the blood pooling in my garage is rising dangerously!” they lament. If you don’t want to be near my blood, then move elsewhere! Is anyone else feeling lightheaded? For every study you present claiming I’m about to amputate my own hand, I can counter with one suggesting you’re mistaken. It doesn’t matter what prestigious university my know-it-all niece attended.

When we look back at the origins of life on Earth, we discover that our earliest ancestors didn’t even possess hands. How did proto-humans manage without hands before ol' Randy showed up with his table saw? The more you dissect these arguments, the more ridiculous they appear!

Additionally… Oh dear, I seem to have lost quite a bit of blood. My hand is barely attached, hanging by a thin strip of tissue. This isn’t the time for blame… haha, no pun intended. Yikes, I think I’m about to faint.
