In order to understand the situation in Oklahoma, it's essential to share a glimpse into my past.
During my ninth-grade year, I faced relentless bullying that drove me to contemplate suicide. With no means at my disposal, I considered two drastic options: hanging myself in the school restroom or jumping off the roof. I leaned towards the first option, hoping to avoid the attention of my peers, who I imagined would mock my final moments.
In a desperate bid for help, I called my mother using a payphone, stating, “I’ll be at the school entrance for fifteen minutes. If you don’t come, I’ll end my life in the bathroom.” Unfortunately, her response was filled with anger and dismissiveness. She viewed my despair as manipulative rather than a cry for help, despite being aware of my severe mental health struggles.
