Redecide: A Fresh Perspective for Your Personal Growth Journey
Written on
Chapter 1: Understanding the Concept of Redeciding
In today's fast-paced world, I’ve adopted a new approach: I no longer merely change my mind; I redecide. This shift in language is significant. Often, we hear the phrase "change your mind" when discussing a shift in opinion or choice. However, my Swedish coaching colleague, Anna Billman, pointed out that the Swedes use a phrase that translates to "change yourself," which can feel even more burdensome. Interestingly, the Norwegians embrace a term that literally means to redecide, a concept that resonated deeply with me.
As someone passionate about language, I find this distinction fascinating. Let’s integrate "redecide" into our daily vocabulary!
Section 1.1: Redeciding vs. Second-Guessing
While redeciding and second-guessing may seem similar, they represent very different mindsets. When you redecide, you are demonstrating growth, adaptability, and a willingness to evolve. It signifies your readiness to adjust your beliefs or decisions in light of new insights. This is a powerful form of personal evolution.
Conversely, second-guessing is rooted in doubt and insecurity. It can lead you into a spiral of overthinking, making you feel stuck and unfulfilled. The contrast is clear: redeciding reflects openness, while second-guessing embodies insecurity.
Subsection 1.1.1: The Strength of Redeciding
When you choose to redecide, you reclaim your power. It’s an acknowledgment that the path you’re on may no longer serve you, and there may be new directions waiting to be explored. Embracing this concept is not only acceptable—it's exhilarating!
If you’re like many people, the act of redeciding can feel akin to admitting a mistake. However, let’s clear the air: this isn’t about right or wrong. It’s about authenticity—being true to yourself and your journey. Your initial decisions were based on the information and circumstances you had at the time. Now, with greater experience and insight, you might find it necessary to reassess and make new choices.
Chapter 2: The Courage to Embrace Change
The essence of redeciding is recognizing it as a mark of strength, growth, and flexibility. The next time something doesn’t resonate with you or you feel unfulfilled, don’t hesitate—redecide! This is your prerogative, and it’s worth celebrating. Those who have the courage to redecide are the ones who truly make an impact in the world.
Remember, you don’t need anyone’s permission to change your mind or make new choices. All you need is the courage to evolve, the desire to grow, and the determination to become your best self.
