Chapter 1: Embracing Your True Potential

Have you ever envied those who seem to have it all together? You might have thought, "They have it easy because of their looks," or "If only I had their power." I’ve felt that way too.

Just recently, while tackling a challenging task at work, I realized I was chosen not for my skills, but due to my physical appearance—being tall and overweight. The manager explicitly stated that another colleague was passed over because she was deemed "too attractive" for the job.

Since I began working there in January 2023, I've observed these dynamics. During a few months when I was fitter, I briefly enjoyed the perks that come with being perceived as attractive. It's clear that a healthy body not only enhances your life but also improves your relationships and opportunities.

In Italy, even with a public healthcare system, financial constraints can make accessing medical care daunting. I often feel anxious just thinking about doctor visits due to my limited budget. This realization motivated me to focus on enhancing my physical appearance, health, and career—without breaking the bank—using only a computer, pen, and paper.

Affordable Glow Up Journey

Phase 1: Crafting Your Victory Plan

To initiate personal change, you must first acknowledge your surroundings and identify your pain points. While you're focused on self-improvement, it's crucial to recognize the roots of your challenges, determining what you can influence and what you cannot. The objective is to adapt to the unchangeable while taking action where possible.

For instance, I find myself in a toxic home environment that inhibits my happiness. As salaries decline and inflation rises, I dream of relocating to Canada or Rotterdam. Moving abroad is the only actionable step I can take, as altering societal structures is not feasible.

Identifying Personal Challenges

My personal struggles include binge eating, depression, and sugar addiction. Additionally, living with a mother who exhibits traits of an undiagnosed narcissist complicates my situation. Limited access to the kitchen and restrictions on cooking hinder my ability to maintain a healthy diet.

Now that I've pinpointed my primary challenges, I can prioritize my goals for a successful transformation. My Glow Up encompasses dietary changes, intermittent fasting, and exercise. It’s essential to clarify that my choices are personal and not meant to trigger anyone else. My aim is to maximize my potential with the time and energy I have.

Phase 2: Focusing on Yourself as the Main Character

The cornerstone of your Glow Up journey is your mindset. Utilize the resources at your disposal to the best of your ability.

The Power of Mindset

Recognize the incredible capabilities of your mind. This journey requires compassion towards yourself as you confront your triggers and traumas. By analyzing them, you can progress despite adversities.

Your mindset shapes your reality. Adopting a proactive attitude allows you to focus on solutions rather than problems. Practicing gratitude for what you have can lead to immediate transformations within yourself. As a Law of Assumption coach, I believe in your ability to shape your reality.

To simplify, concentrate on two key points:

  1. Acknowledge the things you're grateful for.
  2. Seek solutions instead of fixating on problems.

For instance, while I find my job unfulfilling, I remind myself of the positive aspects: a supportive environment and a decent paycheck. This gratitude enables me to focus on developing a side hustle while enhancing my skills in writing, communication, and marketing.

Finding Gratitude in Challenges

Phase 3: Assembling Your Tools

If you wish to embark on your Glow Up, writing is essential. What should you document?

  • Affirmations
  • Gratitude lists
  • Personal reflections
  • Life lessons
  • Daily entries for self-expression
  • One positive experience each day

All you need are a pen and paper—or your phone or computer. Writing can alleviate stress, help analyze challenges, track progress, and identify behavioral patterns. At this initial stage, I recommend jotting down a single sentence daily, whether it's a thought or something you're thankful for.
