Embracing a Year of Exploration and Growth

Chapter 1: A New Beginning
To keep things brief, the past few years have posed their challenges. In order to progress, I had to let go of many passions that once filled my heart. However, with some exciting opportunities unfolding in 2024, I find myself with more time and a lighter mental burden. I’ve decided to fully embrace this chance to explore new avenues.
Rather than selecting just one pursuit from my extensive list, I opted to document everything I hope to try or achieve this year—though I won’t be building a house from scratch anytime soon. My ambitions span from short trips with friends to entrepreneurial ventures and even writing a complete novel during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).
I outlined my goals and estimated time frames for each, distributing them throughout the year. My aim is to dedicate sufficient time to each activity, ultimately gaining insights into the adult version of myself by year’s end.
I implemented two systems to ensure I stay on track: a habit tracker that allows me to monitor daily engagement with my hobbies and a schedule that includes essential tasks, preventing me from becoming too immersed in any single project. I’ve kept the timeline adaptable—if a project requires additional time, I’ll push it back; if I’m not enjoying something, I’ll drop it (unless it’s just anxiety—I push through that). If I have too many goals for one period, I simplify some and defer others. I’m committed to showing up each day, and as March comes to a close, I feel proud of my consistency.
Here are a few highlights from my extensive list for the year:
Section 1.1: Embracing Nature
I realized that I had spent far too little time outdoors, which took a toll on my well-being. Working night shifts didn’t help either, as dark circles under my eyes became more pronounced. This year, my top priority is to spend more time outside. I’ve set a goal to go on 12 hikes and have specified certain friends with whom I want to plan camping trips.
Section 1.2: Creative Experimentation
I want to delve into various creative pursuits, such as experimenting with bodice blocks, using a 3D printer, and brewing beer. While I have numerous hobbies in mind, my focus is simply on trying new things without the pressure of lofty aspirations—just a list of enjoyable tasks.
Subsection 1.2.1: Career Development
I’m also taking steps toward what I envision as my "dream job." This includes working toward a certification to enhance my resume and collaborating with a family member on a project that would further bolster my professional credentials.
Subsection 1.2.2: Digital Creativity
I aspire to publish several e-products this year. I’ve been developing some concepts I believe in, along with two workbooks that I’ve been refining for the past two years. My goal is to complete at least one of these projects.
Chapter 2: Personal Style and Comfort
I want to build my wardrobe and personal style, ideally focusing on handmade and thrifted items. While I may need to buy new shoes, I plan to explore resale options like Poshmark and Depop first. Completing my dream of a me-made wardrobe is a key goal.
I’m eager to participate in NaNoWriMo, a global challenge to write 50,000 words in November—essentially crafting an entire novel! I’ve been brainstorming ideas and developing worlds for two potential stories.
Additionally, I’m committed to making my home a more comfortable space. For too long, I believed happiness would come with a bigger house, but I’ve come to realize that such a move is costly and will take time. Therefore, I’m focusing on making my current home feel cozier, fresher, and significantly less cluttered.
This list is by no means exhaustive. I’ve been learning coding, enhancing my culinary skills, and studying Spanish. I also wish to continue my Becoming an Herbalist series and write extensively. The essence of my approach this year is not about rigid goals or rules; it's more of an open-ended exploration—doing as much as I can. At the year’s end, I’ll reflect on my journey and hopefully lay the groundwork for 2025.
