Embracing the Freedom of Letting Go: A Healing Journey

Written on

Chapter 1: Recognizing Disrespect

I have reached a point where I refuse to tolerate disrespect any longer. For too long, I believed I had to endure mistreatment to maintain peace, fearing the loss of those around me. However, I've come to understand that if someone truly valued me, they would not treat me poorly.

Don’t repeat my past mistakes by being so understanding that you allow others to take advantage of your kindness.

Let them be upset.

Let them judge.

Let them gossip.

Let them ignore you.

Let them believe they are right.

Let them doubt or dislike you.

Let them give you the silent treatment and tarnish your reputation.

Whatever negative remarks they choose to make, allow it.

LET THEM.

The reality is they know their actions hurt you but choose to proceed anyway. They risk losing you yet continue with their harmful behavior. Those who care about you will be mindful of how they affect you. It’s crucial to distance yourself from those who refuse to take accountability. Recognize that the absence of respect, apologies, and genuine care is your closure.

LET. THEM. GO.

Removing yourself from toxic situations where you are subjected to negativity is essential. You can still wish them well from a distance, but remember that access to you is a privilege they have misused.

DON’T TRY TO JUSTIFY IT OR EXPLAIN YOURSELF.

It has taken me years of tears, anger, confusion, and pain to arrive at this realization.

BUT HEALED PEOPLE HEAL PEOPLE.

Do not permit others to rob you of your joy, light, or peace. You have the power to control those aspects of your life. Hold onto what you can influence, and let go of what you cannot.

LET. THEM. GO.

This reflection was inspired by various social media posts but expressed in my own words. Writing down my truth has served as a therapeutic outlet. I first shared this on Facebook and was overwhelmed by the response.

I’m done tolerating disrespect. It took me too long to realize I don’t have to put up with that nonsense. I used to…

www.facebook.com

After just four days, my post garnered over 3 million views, 20,000 reactions, 10,000 shares, and 1,500 comments. While this may not seem significant to everyone, it holds great meaning for me. I encourage you to read the comments; some will make you smile, while others may bring tears to your eyes.

Even as I write this, I am moved by the sense of community, sharing space with one another, and the tears flow freely. Amid the toxicity, chaos, and negativity of social media, there exists a vital space for connection with empathetic individuals.

While Facebook can often feel frivolous and daunting, it still contains pockets where vulnerability thrives, allowing individuals to share their pain and find comfort in knowing they are not alone. The comments reflected a collective release of experiences from those similarly affected by toxic relationships and abusive dynamics. Time and again, stories emerged of mothers disrespected by their children, partners betrayed, and siblings estranged over trivial issues. The common theme was the heartbreaking reality of giving your all to someone only to have it dismissed and scorned.

Yet, these comments also highlighted the remarkable resilience of the human spirit. Many shared how they found the strength to let go after reaching their lowest point, prioritizing their own well-being and reclaiming their light, self-worth, and joy by distancing themselves from harmful situations. Lives were rebuilt, perspectives transformed, and pain evolved into wisdom and grace.

They even showcased their inspiring ‘Let Them’ tattoos!

So, to anyone feeling trapped in a cycle of disrespect and mistreatment — remember, you are not alone.

Have the courage to break free.

Let them go.

Protect your peace.

The world is vast, filled with kind souls who will embrace your authentic self with open hearts. Step into the light; your brilliance deserves to shine.

Much love,

Amanda
