Chapter 1: The Arrival of Snowpocalypse
It has finally come.
11:07 AM, Somewhere South of Lansing, MI
Snowpocalypse is here, but sanity on the roads is absent. I haven't spotted a snowplow yet—perhaps I just missed it. It's likely that everyone assumes the local deer are hunkered down while the snow falls. That might be true, but if one decides to dart out, both the driver and the deer are in for trouble.
At this moment, I'm uncertain if it's still snowing. We've accumulated several inches, but the drifts are making it difficult to gauge. The snowflakes are relatively small and light, swirling about and accumulating wherever the wind directs them. I can appreciate the sense of freedom that this gives the snow, but it is currently blocking our garage. I have a snow blower that I have yet to try out, but I plan to do so once I finish writing.
Regardless of whether more snow is on the way, I’m eager to try out the new blower. Plus, there's a neighbor who seems to thrive in this weather, equipped with a small track-steer machine. It's not exactly a tank; it's a compact version like a Bobcat, but it’s a New Holland. I feel the need to demonstrate that we can clear our own driveway as well. It's nice of him to help out, and he maneuvers the machine with precision, as if he could thread a needle with it. However, sometimes the snow can cover things I didn’t manage to move in time, like my little white hatchback, which now resembles a snow drift. Therefore, I prefer to discourage unannounced good Samaritans.
The temperature has dropped to 5°F with gusty winds. It’s time to give the snow blower a try.
