Life transcends mere monetary gain, and when the end comes, material possessions—like your shiny new Tesla—hold no value.
Instead, if you aspire to lead a fulfilling, dignified, and healthy life, free from the destructive pursuit of wealth at others' expense, keep reading!
Step One: Select Your Purpose Wisely
Choosing a life purpose requires careful consideration. A poorly chosen goal can feel like a disillusioning vacation, where the reality is far from the expectations set by enticing images. To avoid this letdown, adopt what I call the "hand rule," which comprises five essential criteria for your purpose:
- You excel at it.
- You have a genuine passion for it.
- It enables you to earn a living.
- It contributes positively to your well-being.
- It benefits others as well.
Why adhere to these criteria? Without proficiency, competition becomes futile. A lack of passion leads to burnout and abandonment of your goal. If your objective doesn’t provide financial stability, dedicating time to master it becomes challenging. Lastly, a purpose that doesn’t promote your happiness or societal good is ultimately self-defeating.
Renowned author Robert Greene suggests revisiting childhood interests—those activities that brought you joy and showcased your talents. For instance, my own journey led me to history and literature, culminating in my career as a writer.
Now, it’s your turn: Reflect back to your formative years and uncover what truly drives you.
Step Two: Embrace Your Purpose
With your purpose identified, the next step is to internalize a powerful insight from memory expert Jim Kwik:

This emphasizes the importance of maintaining a positive inner dialogue, as your thoughts directly shape your reality.
As Henry Ford famously stated, “Whether you believe you can or not, you’re right.” Distance yourself from naysayers, for their skepticism can undermine your potential. Remember, their critiques are not guidance; they are attempts to program you for failure.
In summary, once you’ve established your purpose, it’s time to refine your mindset to optimize your outcomes. It’s essential to engage with empowering content—videos, books, mentors—anything that enhances your perspective.

With clarity of purpose and a positive mindset, your focus should be unwavering. Indifference, in this context, doesn’t equate to apathy; rather, it means recognizing what matters and eliminating distractions.

Media Indifference
Turn off the television and distance yourself from distractions that sap your energy and initiative. While it's important to stay informed, excessive exposure to negativity can hinder your progress. Focus on improving yourself incrementally each day.
Social Indifference
Be indifferent to both criticism and praise. Falling into complacency after receiving compliments can derail your ambitions. Stay focused on your goals, regardless of external opinions.
Emotional Indifference
Let go of perceived moral or emotional obligations. As you achieve success, others may demand your time and resources. It’s vital to resist these pressures and stay true to your path.
